Message from the President February 2018

Hello my fellow Golden Key members,

During the recent Golden Key Asia-Pacific 25th Anniversary Conference held at RMIT University in Melbourne it was announced Swinburne Golden Key achieved Gold Chapter Status and the esteemed Key Chapter Award.

Each year Golden Key uses chapter standards to gauge involvement and adherence to our Society’s pillars of: Academics, Leadership and Service. Swinburne Golden Key completed all chapter standards last year, achieving the highest reporting standard to attain Gold Chapter Status. In addition, Swinburne Golden Key won the ‘Key Chapter Award’ for the best chapter across Asia-Pacific, we achieved Golden Key International Honour Society’s highest accolade.

My team work diligently to deliver events to our members. During 2017 our chapter hosted the ‘Melbourne Golden Key Career Connector’, a leading Victorian career networking event. I’m also proud of Swinburne Golden Key’s involvement with various community service projects, making a different to the following organisations:

  • 2017 Stepathon - Murdoch Childrens Research Institute
  • ‘Operation Christmas Child’, Samaritan’s Purse
  • ‘Christmas Angel Project’, Knit One Give One
  • Aboriginal Literacy Foundation
  • Monash Children's Hospital
  • Fred Hollows Foundation

I would like this opportunity to thank all committee members and Swinburne University staff for their time and commitment. These awards are remarkable achievements for our Swinburne Golden Key community. We will continue to work hard, always striving for our best to deliver outstanding events for our members.

Personally, I want to say thank you for the support I have received taking up this leadership role. A dream come true, it’s an absolute privilege to lead you to achieve best Golden Key chapter across the Asia-Pacific region.

Vikhyat Dhingra | President Hi, my name is Vikhyat Dhingra, but most of my colleagues and friends know me simply as Vik. It gives me immense pleasure to carry out my first act as President by formally introducing myself and offering to each of you my warmest greetings. For starters, I have been affiliated with Swinburne University for 6 years now, having graduated with a Bachelor’s in IT in 2016, which I’ve since put to good use in my day job as a System Administrator. As a lover of lifelong learning, I’ve also committed myself to further study, having recently enrolled in a Master’s degree of Network Systems specialising in cybersecurity, which I hope to complete by the end of 2020. Backpack 4 Kidz

By Kevin Tuyau - Vice President Swinburne Chapter Swinburne Chapter committee members met at Swinburne University in December 2018 to create 100 stationary packs for Backpack 4 Kids Victoria. The packs were filled with pencils, pens, rulers, erasers and exercise books. The chapter also donated $300 of chapter funding to purchase the stationary items needed for the packs. Backpack 4 Kids Victoria is an organisation that provides backpacks full of essential items to children fleeing domestic violence or have lost everything in house fires. The stationary packs made by the committee will be put in the backpacks along with other items such as clothes and toiletries. A couple of days after making the stationary packs, chapter co-vice president Kevin Tuyau delivered the packs to the Backpack 4 Kids Victoria head office. Written by Karuna Santosa - Swinburne University of Technology Research Assistant, Pro-Vice Chancellor’s Office of Student Engagement When I received a letter in the mail informing me I was invited to join the Golden Keys International Honour Society, I was quite surprised.  I had heard of the society before but I was not aware of what it did or what it stood for as a society.  The letter provided me information about a new members’ event which I was invited to attend.  I was not sure why I was receiving an invite at this stage of my studies, my marks had always been strong and my average score was steady.  So I decided to ask staff at Swinburne whether they thought it was worth paying $100 to join the society.  Interestingly enough, everyone I spoke too encouraged me to join because they believed it was a great networking opportunity.  I decided to find out more about the society before committing myself to the new members’ event.  I did this by attending the free information ses
