Golden Key Swinburne New Member Reception 2018

On Thursday 26th April, Swinburne Golden Key held the annual New Member Reception, in recognition of academic achievement. It was great to see over 300 attendees on the night as we inducted new members into the Golden Key International Honour Society – Swinburne University Chapter.

This year the New Member Reception ceremony was conducted in the magnificent surroundings of the Hawthorn Town Hall. On the main hall stage we heard from the following officiators:
  • Justine Hall: Chapter President              
  • Jane Ward: Vice-Chancellor (Engagement)
  • Elyse Heslehurst: University Relations Officer, Golden Key Asia-Pacific
  • Arthur De Jesus: Recruitment Specialist, Dixon Appointments
  • Prof. Glen Bates: PVC Student Advancement and Chapter Advisor

Every year we induct honorary members who represent Golden Key’s pillars of ‘academics, leadership and service’. I am pleased to announce the following Swinburne Honorary Members for 2018:
  • Jane Ward: Vice-President (Engagement)
  • Paul Kneebone: Academic Development Officer
  • Carolyn Creswell: Founder and Managing Director - Carman’s Kitchen
  • Amanda Wendt: Engagement Director - Matter / 9800 Communications Chair and member of the Rotary Club of Melbourne
Over the last year, Swinburne Golden Key Chapter have worked tirelessly to achieve chapter standards. In recognition for their service to the chapter, the following committee members received certificates on the night:
  • President: Justine Hall
  • Vice-President / Webmaster: Kevin Tuyau
  • Treasurer: Carlo Sinay
  • Secretary: Liz Merritt

Our keynote speaker, Arthur De Jesus from Dixon Appointments gave a very informative presentation, “Labour market and the future of employment: Insights and Preparation”. 
The highlight of the night was presentation of the ‘Key Chapter Award’. This esteemed award is presented annually to chapters that have achieved Gold Status and then gone above and beyond, recognising outstanding achievement and contributions towards Golden Key’s pillars. Golden Key International Honour Society’s highest accolade, I’m so proud to lead the best Golden Key Chapter in Asia-Pacific!

Vikhyat Dhingra | President Hi, my name is Vikhyat Dhingra, but most of my colleagues and friends know me simply as Vik. Backpack 4 Kidz

By Kevin Tuyau - Vice President Swinburne Chapter Swinburne Chapter committee members met at Swinburne University in December 2018 to create 100 stationary packs for Backpack 4 Kids Victoria. The packs were filled with pencils, pens, rulers, erasers and exercise books. The chapter also donated $300 of chapter funding to purchase the stationary items needed for the packs. Backpack 4 Kids Victoria is an organisation that provides backpacks full of essential items to children fleeing domestic violence or have lost everything in house fires. The stationary packs made by the committee will be put in the backpacks along with other items such as clothes and toiletries. A couple of days after making the stationary packs, chapter co-vice president Kevin Tuyau delivered the packs to the Backpack 4 Kids Victoria head office. Written by Karuna Santosa - Swinburne University of Technology Research Assistant, Pro-Vice Chancellor’s Office of Student Engagement When I received a letter in the mail informing me I was invited to join the Golden Keys International Honour Society, I was quite surprised.  I had heard of the society before but I was not aware of what it did or what it stood for as a society.  The letter provided me information about a new members’ event which I was invited to attend.  I was not sure why I was receiving an invite at this stage of my studies, my marks had always been strong and my average score was steady.  So I decided to ask staff at Swinburne whether they thought it was worth paying $100 to join the society.  Interestingly enough, everyone I spoke too encouraged me to join because they believed it was a great networking opportunity.  I decided to find out more about the society before committing myself to the new members’ event.  I did this by attending the free information ses
