President’s Farewell Message 2019

Dear My Fellow Golden Key Associates/Members,

With winter, not far off, I will be signing off with this message for the final time. What an exceptional
12 months this has been, with the accolades and achievements bestowed onto our Golden Key
Chapter. Each committee member has contributed to ensure each chapter standard has been
fulfilled and my congratulations to those who have unlocked their potential through the three pillars
of academics, leadership and service.

Since being inducted, I have had the opportunity to attend two Asia-Pacific summits and organised
numerous Swinburne Golden Key events. The latest Intellectual Engagement Event was one of the
many key highlights, as the concept of Social Investment/Philanthropy continues to gain traction
within Australia and abroad.

The Swinburne Golden Key Chapter has given me the opportunity to develop my leadership skills,
and as the outgoing Chapter President it has been an honour to lead and coordinate the best
chapter in the Asia-Pacific to achieve the ‘Key Chapter Award’ for 2019. Once more a special
mention to the previous Swinburne Golden Key Chapter Advisor – Professor Glen Bates, who has
been an integral part of our chapter over many years. Thank you for the guidance and support I
received whilst you were in office.

While it is with great sadness that our time as a committee comes to an end. I would like to thank all
committee members and Swinburne University staff who continue to support our chapter through
the wonderful beginnings that have been created. Without each and every one of you the chapter
would not be where it is today. I will forever remember your dedication and accomplishments that
have made this a wonderful place to be. I want to acknowledge that the newly elected Swinburne
Golden Key chapter for 2019-2020, continues to build and maintain the outstanding achievements
that have been accomplished and I am certain that you will find your own place amongst the stars.



I am truly humbled by the responsibilities that Golden Key has given me, and I am particularly proud
with the achievements of our chapter.

Vikhyat Dhingra | President Hi, my name is Vikhyat Dhingra, but most of my colleagues and friends know me simply as Vik. It gives me immense pleasure to carry out my first act as President by formally introducing myself and offering to each of you my warmest greetings. For starters, I have been affiliated with Swinburne University for 6 years now, having graduated with a Bachelor’s in IT in 2016, which I’ve since put to good use in my day job as a System Administrator. Backpack 4 Kidz

By Kevin Tuyau - Vice President Swinburne Chapter Swinburne Chapter committee members met at Swinburne University in December 2018 to create 100 stationary packs for Backpack 4 Kids Victoria. The packs were filled with pencils, pens, rulers, erasers and exercise books. The chapter also donated $300 of chapter funding to purchase the stationary items needed for the packs. Backpack 4 Kids Victoria is an organisation that provides backpacks full of essential items to children fleeing domestic violence or have lost everything in house fires. The stationary packs made by the committee will be put in the backpacks along with other items such as clothes and toiletries. A couple of days after making the stationary packs, chapter co-vice president Kevin Tuyau delivered the packs to the Backpack 4 Kids Victoria head office. New Members Reception 2017 - Perspective of a New Member

Written by Karuna Santosa - Swinburne University of Technology Research Assistant, Pro-Vice Chancellor’s Office of Student Engagement When I received a letter in the mail informing me I was invited to join the Golden Keys International Honour Society, I was quite surprised.  I had heard of the society before but I was not aware of what it did or what it stood for as a society.  The letter provided me information about a new members’ event which I was invited to attend.  I was not sure why I was receiving an invite at this stage of my studies, my marks had always been strong and my average score was steady.  So I decided to ask staff at Swinburne whether they thought it was worth paying $100 to join the society.  Interestingly enough, everyone I spoke too encouraged me to join because they believed it was a great networking opportunity.  I decided to find out more about the society before committing myself to the new members’ event.  I did this by attending the free information ses
