President's Message October 2018

It has been a momentous time as our chapter continues to deliver global insights from our shores. Recapping on the past month, we held our Intellectual Engagement Event, that was warmly received. Thank you to both Emily and Pauline for coordinating and hosting this event and Alyssa, Arpit, Kevin and Prathamesh for their continual support from our committee. A special mention in commending Stephanie Woollard for her outstanding achievements and her captivating presentation on her organisation, Seven Women.

Moving forward, is our Victorian career connector and we invite all Golden Key members to join us in connecting with leading industry partners. It is one of the events of the year that must not be missed.

Without further ado, I will leave you with some brain teasing proverbs,

Vikhyat Dhingra | President Hi, my name is Vikhyat Dhingra, but most of my colleagues and friends know me simply as Vik. It gives me immense pleasure to carry out my first act as President by formally introducing myself and offering to each of you my warmest greetings. For starters, I have been affiliated with Swinburne University for 6 years now, having graduated with a Bachelor’s in IT in 2016, which I’ve since put to good use in my day job as a System Administrator. As a lover of lifelong learning, I’ve also committed myself to further study, having recently enrolled in a Master’s degree of Network Systems specialising in cybersecurity, which I hope to complete by the end of 2020. Backpack 4 Kidz

By Kevin Tuyau - Vice President Swinburne Chapter Swinburne Chapter committee members met at Swinburne University in December 2018 to create 100 stationary packs for Backpack 4 Kids Victoria. The packs were filled with pencils, pens, rulers, erasers and exercise books. The chapter also donated $300 of chapter funding to purchase the stationary items needed for the packs. Backpack 4 Kids Victoria is an organisation that provides backpacks full of essential items to children fleeing domestic violence or have lost everything in house fires. The stationary packs made by the committee will be put in the backpacks along with other items such as clothes and toiletries. A couple of days after making the stationary packs, chapter co-vice president Kevin Tuyau delivered the packs to the Backpack 4 Kids Victoria head office. New Members Reception 2017 - Perspective of a New Member

Written by Karuna Santosa - Swinburne University of Technology Research Assistant, Pro-Vice Chancellor’s Office of Student Engagement When I received a letter in the mail informing me I was invited to join the Golden Keys International Honour Society, I was quite surprised.  I had heard of the society before but I was not aware of what it did or what it stood for as a society.  The letter provided me information about a new members’ event which I was invited to attend.  I was not sure why I was receiving an invite at this stage of my studies, my marks had always been strong and my average score was steady.  So I decided to ask staff at Swinburne whether they thought it was worth paying $100 to join the society.  Interestingly enough, everyone I spoke too encouraged me to join because they believed it was a great networking opportunity.  I decided to find out more about the society before committing myself to the new members’ event.  I did this by attending the free information ses
