Academic Breakfast June 2017
Written by Kevin Tuyau (Swinburne Chapter Vice President
2017)
In June I attended Golden Key
Swinburne's annual Academic Breakfast at Café Blac.
At this invitation only event the
new committee, that was elected in May, got the opportunity to meet various key
staff of Swinburne and the honorary Golden Key members inducted in the past.
The most prominent of the guests being Swinburne Vice Chancellor Linda
Kristjanson and Ernst & Young Partner Terence Jeyaretnam.
For many on the committee, the
breakfast is the first Golden Key event they attend and is a great opportunity
to network. Guests are allocated seating specifically so Golden Key members are
sitting next to a staff member or honorary member.
The breakfast is also a great
opportunity for Swinburne staff and honorary members to know more about Golden
Key and the great work we do for the community and university.
Golden Key University Relations
Officer Sunnefa, our representative from the Sydney Headquarters, opened the
event. She gave guests a folder containing information about Golden Key. She
also spoke about the history of Golden Key, important stats and events that our
chapter has held.
Next to speak was our Chapter
President Justine. She spoke about how our chapter obtained the Key Chapter
award at last year's international summit in the USA. This award is given to
chapters that go beyond the requirements needed for Gold Standard. Justine also
spoke about chapter advisor Professor Glen Bates. He received the Best Chapter
Advisor award at this year's Asia-Pacific conference.
After the speeches, we finally
got to the most important part of the event, the breakfast. All guests
pre-ordered their meals a few days in advance. I received a delicious plate of
sausages, pan fried vegetables and fresh baked bread. There was also the option
of eating pancakes or granola.
