Hot Chocolate Networking Event 2018

For the month of July, it was the Golden Key Swinburne Chapter’s turn to host the monthly Hot Chocolate Networking Event. The night of July 26th, it was an excellent turn out with the full leadership committee present along with some new and existing Golden Key members coming along to indulge in warm, hot chocolate and delicious churros. 

The night was held at the El Churro cafe in Hawthorn, right near Swinburne University. The first twenty people who arrived received a free hot chocolate or coffee. There were sweet, crispy churros to share and snack on which was perfect for a winter’s night. It was a great night where people socialised, talked about upcoming events and bonded over hot drinks

Our social officer, Deyna organised and coordinated the event. A nice success of the night was that a Golden Key member that visited the O-week Golden Key stall just days before was informed of the event by our social officer, Deyna and she ended up coming along that night. She came with a friend who was also a Golden Key member and they both expressed interest in assisting in future events.

It was a lovely opportunity to meet some of our fellow Golden Key members, get to know them and let them know how they could be more involved in the Golden Key society such as assisting in upcoming events such as community service events, career networking and the upcoming Victorian Alliance Ball. Written by Karuna Santosa - Swinburne University of Technology Research Assistant, Pro-Vice Chancellor’s Office of Student Engagement When I received a letter in the mail informing me I was invited to join the Golden Keys International Honour Society, I was quite surprised.  I had heard of the society before but I was not aware of what it did or what it stood for as a society.  The letter provided me information about a new members’ event which I was invited to attend.  I was not sure why I was receiving an invite at this stage of my studies, my marks had always been strong and my average score was steady.  So I decided to ask staff at Swinburne whether they thought it was worth paying $100 to join the society.  Interestingly enough, everyone I spoke too encouraged me to join because they believed it was a great networking opportunity.  I decided to find out more about the society before committing myself to the new members’ event.  I did this by ...

Backpack 4 Kidz

By Kevin Tuyau - Vice President Swinburne Chapter Swinburne Chapter committee members met at Swinburne University in December 2018 to create 100 stationary packs for Backpack 4 Kids Victoria. The packs were filled with pencils, pens, rulers, erasers and exercise books. The chapter also donated $300 of chapter funding to purchase the stationary items needed for the packs. Backpack 4 Kids Victoria is an organisation that provides backpacks full of essential items to children fleeing domestic violence or have lost everything in house fires. The stationary packs made by the committee will be put in the backpacks along with other items such as clothes and toiletries. A couple of days after making the stationary packs, chapter co-vice president Kevin Tuyau delivered the packs to the Backpack 4 Kids Victoria head office.
